１９９０年に出された写真詩集です。今読んでもほっとし、目頭が熱くなります。９４歳で亡くなった祖母を思い出します。背中はこれ以上曲がれない というくらいに折れ曲がり、歯はほとんど抜けてなくなり、わずかに残った歯と歯茎でおいしそうにお寿司をほうばった姿が今でも忘れられません。
人は誰でも老いていきます。みんなしわくちゃになります。それでもなぜかかわいくもあり美しくもあります。きらきらぴちぴちした美しさではないけれど、ほのかないのちの美しさがあります。私もこんな風にかわいく老いることが出来るのでしょうか？
この本のなかに「おやつ」という文章があります。学校から帰ってきた孫たちを自分の布団のところに手招きし、布団のしたからおやつを取り出し孫た ちに上げる。ぺちゃんこにつぶれた饅頭や、ほこりの付いた少し干からびたりんごなど。そんなものでも、孫たちはなぜか「いらない」「汚い」とも言わず、 いっしょに「おいしい」といって食べた。そんな孫たちの思い出話です。
今の子どもたちには到底出来ないことかもしれない。核家族で育った子どもたちが年寄りをどんな風に見つめどんな風にかかわれるのだろうか？寂しい ばかりです。このお話も一緒に暮らしてきたからこそ出来る話でしょう。もう一度昔のような家族のあり方が今見直されないだろうか。いついつも私は思ってい ます。
